Upgrading camera gear is never just about specs — especially when you rely on your equipment for real client work.
In this video, I share the story behind my decision to move to the Canon RF 100mm Macro lens, and why it made sense for me as a wedding and lifestyle photographer based in Ontario.
Over the past few years, I’ve built my kit around a mix of Sigma Art lenses and Canon EF glass. Lenses like the Sigma 40mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4 delivered incredible image quality, but they also came with trade-offs — particularly in weight and usability over long wedding days.
I also spent time working with the Canon EF 100mm Macro L lens, which has been a solid and reliable option for capturing wedding details like rings, invitations, and those small moments that matter.
But as I’ve transitioned more into the RF system with cameras like the Canon R5 and R3, it started to make sense to rethink my lens lineup.
This video isn’t a lab-style review filled with charts and test charts — it’s a practical, real-world look at:
Why I decided to upgrade:
- How my previous lenses performed in actual wedding scenarios
- What I’m hoping to gain from the RF version
- And how this lens fits into my day-to-day workflow
If you’re a photographer considering upgrading your gear — especially if you shoot weddings or events — this video gives you an honest perspective from someone who uses this equipment professionally.
