A Beautiful Day For Wedding Portraits
It was a hot 30ºC day in Canada's capital on June 4th. On this day a special wedding photo walk event was being hosted by Grey loft Studio and a great service they brought for the evening. With the recently new wedding couple, we ventured across some the capital's iconic spots capturing beautiful portraits.
Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica | Ottawa
Our first location was on the front steps of the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica in downtown Ottawa. Here as golden hour descended upon us, we had the opportunity to get to know the newlywed's Nico & Gabby. Along with us came Jen the florist (Instagram@theochrepeony) that provided beautiful bouquets for the wedding shoot this beautiful evening in Ottawa.

We then ventured onto our second location of the evening, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. With the light well into golden hour, the colours were really starting to shine through beautifully. We stopped here for a brief period to capture some shots of the newlywed's enjoying each others embrace while strolling along side this great building.

Leading into Major's Hill Park with its winding paths and river views of the Ottawa river we stopped and saw as the light was getting low it could make for some fantastic looking images. I have always been a fan of the camera lens flares produced in this backlit styled shots with the natural light of the sun. Once through the entrance of the park we made our way along the pathways of Major's Hill Park to the green meadow behind the grand Fairmont Château Laurier our 3rd location of the evening. Now unit this point in the evening It had been extremely hot, and from my understanding is that the hot weather does not mix very well with make-up, however the the make up done by Rebecca Rose Beauty had held up fenominaly against the 30ºc weather we were experiencing this day and lasted without correction to the very end of the shoot.

As we made our way to the end of the evening and our journey tonight. The setting sun in front of us at our final stop, the balcony overlooking the locks of the Rideau Canal at the Fairmont Château Laurier. We took our final portraits of the newlywed's in the warm glow of the sun that had given the us a real scorcher of a day, it gives us a chance to highlight the elegant dress proved to us for this evening's event by Sinders Bridal House. During this intense photo walk event it gave me a real chance to push the limits of my new camera the Canon R5, and as you may see I am very pleased with the results. Check out my article for what's in my camera bag for 2024 if your interested in learning more about what equipment is needed for wedding photography.
