Considering the Fujifilm X-T4 as a Travel Camera
This summer my family and I are travelling to England and Spain, and it has me thinking differently about the camera gear I bring with me.
As a professional wedding photographer based in Ottawa in Eastern Ontario, I’m used to travelling with a fairly large amount of equipment. When photographing weddings I often bring multiple camera bodies, lenses, lighting equipment, and stands. It’s a setup designed for reliability and flexibility during a wedding day.
But travelling with three kids is a completely different situation.
For this trip, I’m considering leaving my professional cameras at home and bringing something smaller and lighter that will allow me to simply document the trip and enjoy the experience with my family.
One camera that keeps coming up in my research is the Fujifilm X-T4. It’s well known among photographers for its compact size, great image quality, and classic manual controls. Many photographers love the Fujifilm system for travel photography because it allows them to carry less gear while still producing excellent results.
At the same time, switching systems—even temporarily—is a decision worth thinking through carefully. I already shoot professionally with Canon cameras, and they perform incredibly well for my work as a wedding photographer.
So the question becomes: do I really need another camera for travel?
In the video above I walk through my thought process as I decide whether the Fujifilm X-T4 makes sense for this upcoming trip. This is the first video in a small series where I’ll be documenting the decision and eventually sharing what camera setup I actually bring with me on our family trip.
